Citizen Send

Privacy policy

Effective: May 2026

Citizen Send ("we", "us") is operated by Citizen Sites LLC and makes a small-groups app for prayer, chat, calendar events, and shared photos. This page explains what we collect, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have.

What we collect from you

When you create an account we store your email address, display name, and username. You can optionally add a profile photo, a short bio, and a phone number. When you use the app we store the content you create, including direct and group messages (text, photos, voice clips, polls, prayer messages), prayer requests and responses, calendar events and RSVPs, friend requests, group memberships, and group invite codes, along with timestamps, the chat or group each item belongs to, and basic metadata like read receipts and reactions. If you allow notifications we store a push token so we can deliver alerts to your device.

What we collect automatically

We collect minimal technical data needed to operate the app: device type and operating system version (so notifications and rendering work correctly), the timestamp of your activity, and error reports when something crashes. We do not use third-party advertising trackers or analytics SDKs that build cross-app profiles of you.

How we use your data

We use your data only to operate the app: to show you and your group your shared chats, prayers, and events; to deliver push notifications you've asked for; to handle support and abuse reports; and to keep the service secure. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Where it lives

Your data is stored using Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Storage). Firebase processes data on Google servers, primarily in the United States. Push notifications are delivered through Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging. Transactional emails (password resets, support replies) are sent through Resend.

Who can see what

Profile information you share, such as your display name, username, and photo, is visible to people you connect with and to people who search for your username. Direct messages, group channel messages, prayer requests, calendar events, and shared photos are visible only to the members of the chat, group, or event you posted them in.

Prayers in chats are shared with everyone in the chat

When you post a prayer in any direct message or group chat, that prayer is shared with every member of that chat and is automatically added to each member's personal prayer log. This is intentional and is the central feature of the app. It means anything you write as a prayer in a chat should be treated as content you've consented to share with every member of that chat, including being kept in their prayer logs for as long as they choose to keep it. Don't post anything as a prayer that you wouldn't want every member of that chat to read or remember.

Your choices

You can edit or remove your profile information at any time from the Profile tab. You can disable any category of notifications from Settings. You can leave a group, block another user, or report content from inside the app. You can delete your account and the data tied to it from the Profile screen. See the Termination section of our Terms of Service for what gets removed and what may persist in anonymized form.

Data retention and access

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile and personal content are removed from our systems immediately. Content you shared in group chats (such as messages or prayers) may remain visible to other members of those chats, since it forms part of their record of the conversation, but it is disassociated from your account. To request a copy of the data we hold about you, contact us through the Help & feedback screen in the app. You can also submit a deletion request without signing in at /citizensend/delete-account.

Children

Citizen Send is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us through Help & feedback and we will remove it.

Security

Data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. Data at rest is encrypted by our cloud providers using their standard encryption. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you we will notify you in line with applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the effective date at the top and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
